East Liverpool City Hospital Named One of the Nation’s 100 Top Hospitals®

East Liverpool City Hospital recognized as one of the top community hospitals in the United States, according to a ranking by Fortune and Premier. The hospital placed eleventh out of twenty in the medium community hospital category of Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals 2026 list. Receiving this award for the nine consecutive year (2018-2026) speaks to the level of commitment and dedication that the entire hospital team must ensure excellence in patient care. The Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals list aims to highlight institutions that excel in key performance measures, including inpatient mortality, complications, average length of stay, and healthcare-associated infections.

This outstanding rating reflects the high level of healthcare provided by ELCH physicians and employees for East Liverpool City Hospital patients. The CMS organization annually assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals based on 46 hospital quality measures, which are divided into five quality categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely and effective care. The CMS rating system was launched in 2016 to help patients and caregivers make informed decisions when selecting a hospital. Hospitals report quality data to the CMS through multiple reporting programs, and the data is reviewed and standardized to calculate hospital star ratings.

East Liverpool City Hospital Only Hospital In The Ohio Valley To Earn Five Star Rating From Cms 2023 Quality Rating Report

East Liverpool City Hospital was the only hospital named a five-star hospital from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Ohio Valley, consisting of Columbiana, Jefferson, Harrison, and Belmont County in Ohio and Marshall, Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio County in West Virginia.

Approximately sixteen percent of hospitals across the country receive five stars out of a one -to five-star rating system. ELCH’s rating is based on how well it performs across five different areas of quality measures including readmissions, mortality, safety of care, patient experience and timely and effective care. The CMS rating system was launched in 2016 to help patients and caregivers make informed decisions when selecting a hospital. Hospitals report quality data to the CMS through multiple reporting programs, and the data is reviewed and standardized to calculate hospital star ratings.

East Liverpool City Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, is a 130-bed acute care hospital. In 2022, the hospital was recognized as one of Fortune‘s “100 Top Hospitals” for the fifth consecutive year. The hospital has also been awarded a Leapfrog safety grade of “A” from 2018 to 2023. ELCH is the only hospital in the region to receive the Grade A award.

Laura Blaner, RN – Med Surg/Telemetry

A patient is grateful for another chance at life and attributes that to the compassionate care she received from Laura Blaner.
