Your Education

We match 4 incoming residents each year. Besides having the opportunity to work with 40+ attending physicians, podiatry residents are the only surgical residents at East Liverpool City Hospital. The Podiatric residents work closely alongside all the surgical and medical specialties within the facility including orthopedics, vascular surgery, general surgery, cardiology and many more. The podiatric residents work at multiple hospitals where they rotate with various other surgical specialties. Other residency programs within East Liverpool City Hospital (our sponsoring institution) include family medicine and internal medicine which provide a strong learning atmosphere while teaching our residents how to participate in the care of patients and interact with other medical specialties. In addition, podiatry residents have the opportunity to be mentored by the fellow of the Northern Ohio Medical Specialists Ankle and Foot Care Centers (NOMS).

Our residency program provides premier training in complex diabetic limb salvage, rearfoot reconstructive, total ankle replacements, and advanced podiatric lower extremity trauma care. Residents have daily academics with weekly radiology and case conference, where cases are presented with 3 months of follow-up post-operative. We also have monthly journal clubs at local restaurants and monthly to bimonthly cadaver labs. Residents are encouraged to participate in research yearly through the ACFAS conference as well as other regional and national conferences. Academics are designed to not only prepare residents for their surgical boards but also to garner confidence in themselves as clinicians, surgeons, and overall, as physicians.
