East Liverpool, Ohio, November 15, 2024 – East Liverpool City Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
This is East Liverpool City Hospital’s 14th award, receiving the A award from 2018 -2024. ELCH is the only hospital in the region to receive the Grade A award.

Over the last year, 85 percent of Prime hospitals earned “A” ratings from The Leapfrog Group.

East Liverpool City Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, was recognized as one of the “100 Top Hospitals” for the seventh consecutive time in May (2018-2024). ELCH achievements include earning recognition as the only hospital named a five-star hospital for the second year in a row, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Ohio Valley, consisting of Columbiana, Jefferson, Harrison, and Belmont County in Ohio and Marshall, Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio County in West Virginia.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than five hundred patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
