East Liverpool, Ohio, May1, 2024 – EAST Liverpool City Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a patient safety ratings organization. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
The Leapfrog Safety Grade is the golden standard measure of patient safety and awarded twice a year. This is East Liverpool City Hospital’s 13th award and have received the A award from 2018 -2024 ELCH is the only hospital in the region to receive the Grade A award.
“Receiving the Hospital Safety Grade A Award for the thirteenth time speaks to the commitment and collaboration between ELCH and the medical staff to ensure patients receive the safest standard of care”, said Stephanie Conn, Interim Chief Executive Officer of East Liverpool City Hospital.
Over the last year, 81 percent of Prime’s hospitals earned an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group.

East Liverpool City Hospital has earned the “100 Top Hospitals” for the seventh consecutive year (2018-2024). This achievement, along with East Liverpool City Hospital receiving the Patient Safety Excellence Award for the seventh time (2018-2024) and being among the top 5% in the nation. In August, East Liverpool City Hospital was awarded the only five-star hospital award, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Ohio Valley, consisting of Columbiana, Jefferson, Harrison, and Belmont County in Ohio and Marshall, Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio County in West Virginia.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than five hundred patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
